 Women Empowerment in India: More needs to be done


Introduction

For the overall growth of any nation , the f-word is very important. And by the f-word I mean feminism. As mentioned in the above quote, with the involvement of men and women together, any issue can be simple solved. Indian women have been treated variously since ancient India. Today, even so , the times are exchange , and this article throws some light on how Indian women are overcoming all the odds and emerging supreme.

History of women empowerment in India

Around 50% of the Indian well liked is women. Still, India has a disproportionate sex ratio. This is because women are still treated differently as compared to men, in unlike parts of the nation . This issue  has been seen from ancient India, where women were worshiped as goddesses and at the same time treated as slaves. In the Mahabharata, the wife of the Pandavas, Draupadi had to face all forms of variation . This shows that women were treated lower than men. The ideal mindset of the society was to make the girl-child marry at a very young age. even so , this state of event was weird and distant as, on one hand, the daughters had the right to choose their husbands and on the other, they had to doing the practice of Sati. The British era brought various changes and better in this context as, in the West, women were treated equally and on par with men. In 1848, Savitribai Phule became the first woman teaching  in India. 

Constitutional provisions

Due to the injustices faced by women in Indian society, they were unaware of what Independence, freedom is. The design of India changed things. The Constitution warrant equality and justice in all spheres of life. It granted facts to women and ensured that the State implemented various schemes for their benefit. Some of the various supply that guarantee gender facst are:

  • Article 14 of the Constitution states that every person is equal ahead the law and has equal safety of the laws.
  • Article 15 prohibits bias of any citizen on the grounds of religion, race, gender, customs, caste, etc.

The Indian Penal Code

  • Sexual harassment (Section 509);
  • Torture (Section 498A);
  • Dowry, dowry deaths (Section 302, Section 304B);
  • Molestation (Section 354).

accord on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women

The accord on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women was adopted in 1979 by the United Nations General Assembly and came into force in 1993. This accord is termed an global bill of rights for women and their empowerment. It sets out the conditions and supply  for discrimination against women. This accord has 30 articles and it lays down the various size , and that all States accepting the accord must follow. These size include:


  • To follow the facts between men and women, abolish all discriminatory frameworks enacted in the country, and implement laws that prohibit bigotry against women.
  • To set up courts, tribunals, and other organizations which make sure that women get adequate defense against any form of discrimination.
  • To end all acts of precaution going on once again  women.

The nation and that have accepted this convey , become legally bound by its supply . India has also accepted this convention.
